Performance Comparison of Commonly Used Nanoparticle Probes
Lateral flow assays are simple diagnostic devices that can detect a variety of biomarkers in saliva, nasal fluid, urine, and other sample types.
Lateral flow assays are simple diagnostic devices that can detect a variety of biomarkers in saliva, nasal fluid, urine, and other sample types. The control and test bands on a standard lateral flow test are generated using strongly colored reporter probes, often nanoparticles, bound to a white nitrocellulose strip.
In this white paper, we compared the sensitivity of Fortis Life Science’s blue-green 150 nm Gold Nanoshells with 40 nm Carboxyl Gold Nanospheres (CGN), Europium latex, and colored latex probes. We conjugated the probes to an anti-SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid antibody and incorporated them into a lateral flow sandwich assay. Our results show that both Gold Nanoshells and colored latex had the highest level of sensitivity.
